8/17/08: Attention: Parents, Coaches and all 8th Grade Wrestlers

7/30/08: Future Leaders of America: 42 New York City Wrestlers Participate in a Leadership Development Program
42 New York City Wrestlers from 20 different NYC high schools are currently participating in a leadership development program designed by University of Minnesota Wrestling Head Coach J. Robinson. The program is being run at Southern Oregon University in Ashland, OR. It began on Sunday, July 27 and goes until August 9th. Read more.
7/11/08: BTS Summer Camp Bus Schedule for Cortland and Binghamton Camps

6/19/08: New Weekly Update
Busloads of wrestlers from New York City's Beat the Streets Wrestling Program will be attending the Bruce Baumgartner Wrestling Camp in July.  Mike Cigala, Executive Director, has organized a large contingent mostly from Brooklyn High and Middle Schools to spend a week being inspired and motivated by one of America's most decorated athletes. 6/4/08: New York City Public School System Will Become the First City or State to Sponsor a Freestyle and Greco-Roman Season
Mike Novogratz, Chairman of the Board, announced at the Annual Beat the Streets Celebration in May that the PSAL would next year begin the organization of both a freestyle and Greco-Roman season for high school wrestling in addition to the existing winter folkstyle season. Read more.

We know that you are all very busy this time of year and we appreciate your efforts to keep your athletes wrestling throughout the summer months. Results: Novice Brackets. Fortress Brackets. Farrell won the Fortress Leage Small Schools Team Title; Roosevelt Island won the Fortress League Large School Team Title.

Dear BTS Coaches, Thomas Edison once said that success is 1% inspiration, and 99% perspiration. We have struggled, worked, and sweated these last 3 months to now have our final test placed before us. 5/8/08: Weekly Update
Dear BTS Coaches, They say that success happens when hard work and preparation meet with opportunity. This adage can best explain our Fortress dual championships this past weekend, May 3, at Petrides high school. The event was great with excited coaches, wrestlers, and fans all having a great time! Congratulations to the A & B division dual champions, Lions Wrestling Club coached by Joe Diforte and IS 93, coached by Jeremy Schwartz, for their championship performance. Read more.

 

5/6//08: 2008 BTS MIDDLE SCHOOL CHAMPIONSHIPS SLATED FOR HARLEM ARMORY SATURDAY, MAY 17.
On Saturday, May 17 the famous Harlem Armory will be the site of one of the largest middle school championships in the New York City area. Over 60 school programs and 600 area youth will be ready to compete for the ultimate prize, the 2008 BTS middle school championship title. Read more.

4/17/08:Goldstein, Haberli, Blythe, Conrade and Luce to be Honored at the Annual Beat the Streets Celebration at the Bowery Hotel
The Beat the Streets Wrestling Inc. has announced it annual Award Winners that will be recognized at the Celebration Gala Event on May 20th, 6:30pm at the Bowery Hotel in lower Manhattan. Read more.
4/15/08: Team Fortis Tryouts Scheduled
The inaugural Beat the Streets "Team Fortis " ALL-STAR WRESTLING TEAM  tryouts will be held at Grand Street Campus on Saturday, April 19 at 12:00 noon. The wrestlers will go through a basic workout /clinic and then participate in wrestling scrimmages. All experienced wrestlers are welcome to tryout and coaches are encouraged to attend. Read more.
4/7/08: New Weekly Update
Dear BTS Coaches, The excitement of the season continues to mount as we march towards both our Fortress and novice season ending competitions. Of course both Fortress and novice teams are anticipating the season finale 2008 Middle School Championships being held at the famous Harlem Armory in Manhattan on Saturday May 17. This will be the largest middle school tournament of its kind held in NYC. Both Fortress and Novice Divisions will be competing in separate championships under the same roof. 4/3/08: New Weekly Update
Dear Coaches, These are some of the most exciting times in the history of our BTS organization. As our Fortress League continues, we are making history as the first middle school league to ever host wrestling dual meets in New York City. 4/2/08: Staten Island Training Center
A great opportunity for the Island Community as it expands wrestling with new programs at New Dorp and Port Richmond, joining Farrell, Susan Wagner, McKee and Petrides High School. Read more.
4/1/08: The Road to Fargo Begins April 13th at the USA  Wrestling New York City Freestyle Qualifier
The  USA Wrestling National Jr. Championships attracts over 4000 of the top high school wrestlers in the country from 49 states.  It is the recruiting Mecca  for high school wrestlers and collegiate coaches. Read more.

3/24/2008 : Beat the Streets program announces 15 new high school wrestling teams in New York City for 2008-09
The BTS/PSAL Wrestling Commissioner has announced that 15 new high schools have been accepted by the PSAL to begin wrestling programs for the 2008-2009 Wrestling Season. Several other high schools have been extended invitations to join the new class of high schools to become involved in the "world's oldest and greatest sport of WRESTLING". Read More.
3/18/08: New Weekly Update

3/18/08: Fortress Wrestling League is launching on Wednesday, March 19 with 20 Middle School teams
For the first timein history, the Beat the Streets Wrestling Program has organized interschool competition for its 20 programs that began in 2005. Many of the teams involved have been developing their program for two years with several having been organized for 3 years. Read more.
3/10/08: Lenzi, New York State Champion and Morales All-State
Andrew Lenzi, Fordham Prep HS in the Bronx and a member of the CHSAA contingent, became the first New York City wrestler to win a New York State High School Wrestling Championship. He defeated Brian Benton of Amsterdam HS (Sec.2) in the finals 5-3. He became only the 3rd wrestling state champion from the CHSAA since 1963 . There are 26 teams statewide who participate in high school wrestling through the CHSAA Banner. Peter Morales, Grand Street Campus HS senior placed 5th place in the 112lbs. weight class at the 2008 New York State D1 Championships over the week-end in Rochester, NY. Read More.

New York City Wrestling On the Road to a State Championship
Thirty Five New York City Wrestlers will participate in the 2008 New York State HS Wrestling Championships in Rochester on Friday and Saturday.  Thirty PSAL Champions and 5 CHSAA Champions will be a part of the field of 240 wrestlers from all 13 Sections throughout New York State. Read More.
2/25/08: From "Rags to Riches:" D-League wrestling title points to Canarsie's revival
Canarsie outlasted every team the PSAL had to offer in a nearly 12-hour competition, clinching the league's developmental wrestling championship at Flushing HS on Feb. 10. Read More.

2/20/08: 4 Farrell Wrestlers Qualify for the 2008 New York State Championships
Monsignor Farrell High School, led by the 2007 High School Coach of the Year in New York City, Lou DeStefano, continues building a New York State powerhouse program for the Staten Island School. Read More.
2/15/08: Enam Hasan Becomes the First Ever BTS Wrestler to Qualify for NY States
Enam Hasan of Baruch High School became the first ever Beat The Streets Wrestler to qualify for the New York State Division 2 Championship Tournament last weekend. Read more.

If you missed our wrestling day last Saturday Feb. 2 at the Harlem Armory, you missed  one of the most wonderful events this organization has ever held! A huge combination of BTS coaches, parents,  and wrestlers, all having fun in the sport of wrestling, right in the middle of New York City's most exciting high school championship event. 2/5/07: Beat the Streets Honors African American Wrestling Champions of the Past During Black History Month
Beat the Streets Wrestling would like to take this opportunity to honor the African American Wrestling Champions of the past during Black History Month. Included is a video of Kenny Monday, the first African American to win an Olympic gold medal in wrestling, describing what it was like growing up to wrestle as a black kid. You will also find information provided by the National Wrestling Hall of Fame about the African American Wrestling Experience, biographies of all African American NCAA Champions, Olympians, and Hall of Fame Members, and more. 2/4/08: Monsignor Farrell HS (CHSAA) Defends its Team Title Winning the Annual Mayors' Cup Wrestling Championships at the beautiful Harlem Armory in Manhattan on Superbowl Sunday!
This year's version of the Mayors Cup was expanded to allow every wrestling program in all 5 Boroughs to participate in the prestigious event. Read More.
