This past weekend marked the start of the collegiate wrestling season. While schedules were hampered by Hurricane Sandy, many local wrestlers found success competing for other schools.
At the Kings College Monarch Invitational on Saturday, November 3rd, Fordham Prep alum Sam Bulagay went 2-2 representing York College, and Francisco DeCristo of Springfield Gardens made a successful return after a few years off the mat for Cortland. DeCristo went 3-1 at 197 pounds, only losing in the finals 5-3 to teammate Jared Myhrberg, the #1 ranked wrestler in the country.
The PSAL was well represented at the Ithaca Invitational by the following wrestlers:

Zyko, Marquez, and Ramkishun all won matches in the historically strong tournament. Franco went 4-2, narrowly missing a spot on the podium. Abubakarr Sow, competing in his first collegiate action, took 2nd place, going 3-1 and made the finals despite having the nation’s third-ranked grappler in his half of the bracket.
Finally, Trevor Alston, an Eagle Academy Graduate, represented Brockport Sunday at the Buffalo Open.
