Beat the Streets Executive Director Mike Cigala (right) celebrates a tournament victory with one of his wrestlers |
We all know that Beat the Streets single-handedly made history by giving birth to the first middle school wrestling programs of its kind in NYC. However, did you know that BTS is making a BIG difference in the young PSAL programs that started in the 2007/2008 season?
The PSAL has committed to begin 15 new wrestling programs every year, and BTS has adopted these programs and are not only providing financial assistance, but technical support as well.
New executive director Mike Cigala, a PSAL champ himself, is crisscrossing the boroughs to provide much needed coaching and technique guidance to inexperienced coaches and wrestlers.
Along with the assistance of head advisor to the BTS Dr. Michael Spanakos, Cigala provides wrestling clinics, demonstrations, and vital practice essentials to all high schools that reach out to Beat the Streets. Cigala also attends as many dual meets as time permits.
Beat the Streets has its office within the PSAL office and Cigala works alongside equally hardworking PSAL commissioner Larry Cantor to change the culture of success of NYC wrestling.
Any PSAL program who needs assistance for its program can contact Beat the Streets and its executive director. Please contact our office at (212) 798-6100 or Mike Cigala at (718) 350-1034.
