Lenzi, New York State Champion and Morales All-State

Andrew Lenzi, Fordham Prep HS in the Bronx and a member of the CHSAA contingent, became the first New York City wrestler to win a New York State High School Wrestling Championship. He defeated Brian Benton of Amsterdam HS (Sec.2) in the finals 5-3. He became only the 3rd wrestling state champion from the CHSAA since 1963 . There are 26 teams statewide who participate in high school wrestling through the CHSAA Banner.

Peter Morales, Grand Street Campus HS senior placed 5th place in the 112lbs. weight class at the 2008 New York State D1 Championships over the week-end in Rochester, NY.

He was one of thirty PSAL Wrestlers who participated in the Championships in Div. 1 and Division 2. Click here for the final results in both D1 and D2

Next season begins Monday March 10 at 6pm-8pm at Hunter College as the Beat the Streets Program will begin its 4th Spring Developmental Training Program for all wrestlers in grades 8th through 12th. The program is designed to develop "elite" wrestlers who want to compete at the state, regional and national level of wrestling.

Many former NCAA Champions and All-Americans will be the teachers at the training center. Included in this unbelievable resource available in NYC Metropolitan area will be Nick Gallo, Hofstra University, 1977 NCAA Champion and Outstanding Wrestler, Glenn Printzlaff, NCAA Champion, Penn State University, Brent Matter NCAA Champion University of Penn, Clinton Matter UP and John Bove Cornell, EIWA Champions along with Mike Mormile NYS High School Champion and EIWA runner-up for Cornell.

Yero Washington, former Columbia University Assistant Coach and a 2 two time NCAA All- American, Dave Foxen, Brockport All-American and Freestyle All-American for the NYAC and Noel Thompson, former NYS Champion and High School All-American who won Conference titles for Hofstra are some of the clinicians volunteering to help New York City wrestlers who are serious about wrestling.

Al Bevilacqua, President of Beat the Streets Wrestling Inc. former Massapequa HS, Hofstra University and National Coaching Staff Member from 1983-1991 selected as the 1983 National Coach of the Year will begin teaching and registering the future of New York City wrestling in the program on Monday March 10 and Wed. March 12.

Mike Cigala, BTS Executive Director and Raphael Soto, Hunter College will be the Co-Directors. Both men are former PSAL High School Champions who have gone and wrestled for Lock Haven University and Brockport University. Raphael was a member of the New York State Team out of Newtown HS and was the first PSAL wrestler to become a High School All-American at the National Jr. Champions in Iowa University. Raphael is also the Assistant Coach at Hunter College.

If you are serious about wrestling, be there on time ready to go. Action's Speak Louder Than Words! Bring an empty jar so you can begin filling up the jar with "jellybeans".
