The Paul Goddard Invitational at Nazareth Regional High School (Brooklyn) was held on Saturday December 22. At the tournament were a few familiar faces. In fact, there were a lot of familiar faces! In a joint effort to continue to expand, and improve the base and culture of NYC wrestling, four key Beat the Streets officials were present making a difference in our NYC youth. Most people were resting at home or getting their last shopping in, but our fearless foursome are not like most people.
The individuals were Mike Cigala (BTS executive director), assisting Baruch H.S. and other PSAL schools; Rob Schoenberg (BTS treasurer), asst. coach at Baruch High School;
DrMWSpanakos (Liaison to NYC programs), volunteering as team doctor and coaching; and Bill Crum, Head coach at Nazareth High School and events planner for BTS.
Beat the Streets continues to be everywhere there is a wrestling mat, assisting, coaching, and yes making a positive difference in the NYC youth. Their leader and CEO Mike Novogratz encourages their actions and leads by example. Last week, Novogratz led Baruch High School's morning practice at 6:00 AM. Someone asked what type of billionaire would get up at 5:00 am to lead a 2-hour morning wrestling practice to high school kids. Well that's a easy question -- a Beat the Streets one!
