The "past" and the "present" will be on display on Sunday, January 27 at Hofstra University entertains both the Beat the Streets Wrestling and the University of Pennsylvania with a clinic and a dual meet scheduled for 1pm.
The clinic is 10am-12pm for the 100 Middle School advanced wrestlers of New York City's Beat the Streets Wrestling Program inaugurated in 2005 with 1 team. There is 65 middle schools teams in all 5 Boroughs of New York City in the 2008 season.
Joe Dubuque, a two time NCAA Champion and assistant coach at Hofstra will be teaching the kids some of his skills and techniques. He represents the present and future to all the new wrestlers.
Doug Blubaugh, an NCAA Champion for Oklahoma State University and the 1960 Gold Medalist voted the Outstanding Wrestler in the World by defeating and pinning 7 time World Champion Habibi of Iran. Doug later became assistant Coach at Michigan State University helping them to an NCAA Team Championships and retired from Indiana University after coaching there for a number of years.
He wrestled for the New York Athletic Club from 1955-1961 while being stationed at West Point doing his tour of duty for the United States. The NYAC has awarded a Lifetime Membership in the prestigious club for his performance over the years representing the Club and his Olympic Championship.
He will be joined Sunday by former teammate of the 1960 Olympic Team Lou Giani, himself a Distinguish Member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and currently a high school coach at Huntington HS on Long Island.
Doug was selected unanimously as a Distinguish Member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and is retired living in Oklahoma.
