Dear Coaches,
I cannot explain how excited and thankful I am for this last Sunday's BTS event at Hofstra University . Great NCAA wrestling and hundreds of BTS kids yelling in the stands with their equally excited coaches. IT DOES NOT GET ANY BETTER THAN THIS! Except maybe for what we have planned this coming weekend.
Hundreds of NYC high school kids wrestling in a championship setting at one of NYC's most historic arenas. Wrestlers from every public, catholic, and private program in NYC, with over 3000 fans cheering in the stands. In the midst of all this exciting action is:
The Beat the Streets 2008 Mayor's Cup Edition Wrestling Day at Harlem Armory
One West 142nd Street , New York , N.Y. 1:00-5:00pm , Saturday February 2nd.
This BTS wrestling event will prove to be one of the most exciting in our organization's history. It's part clinic, part tournament, part wrestling scrimmage, and part family reunion.
Mostly, it is a time when all of our BTS family programs can get together and show off our kids and their skills! We are counting on every winter program to attend with their wrestlers to take advantage of this rare and wonderful opportunity. We invite ALL programs, both winter and spring to take part in this historic event.
[Please note: All winter coaches are contractually mandated to attend this BTS event. The event will begin with all BTS programs arriving at 1:00 pm at the Harlem Armory.]
Our Wrestling Day activities will began soon afterward and will consist of a technique clinic with lots of hands-on instruction from BTS staff and coaches. Later on we will have live scrimmages and a mini-tournament. If time permits, our BTS wrestlers will be wrestling on the mats in front of the main audience.
Coaches, I know you will want to attend this educational event with your wrestlers. It's an event that can change the course of a young man's or young lady's life.
Please call our home office at 212-497-2800 and give Ryan and Vinnie the number of wrestlers who plan on attending our wrestling day at the Harlem Arena. These numbers are critical to our set-ups so please call those numbers in. Thank you in advance for your cooperation in all that you do!!
Please note that there will be no BTS buses available for this event.
There is ample public transportation available to the site. The best way to get there is to take the number 3 train to 145th St . The address is One 142nd Street and the entrance is on 142nd St between 5th and Lennox .
Also do not forget to check out the Columbia University clinic and dual meet this Friday, February 1st at Columbia University . The free clinic will run from 4:30 PM until 6:00 PM, with the dual meet match against Bucknell University starting at 7pm. Myself, as well as the BTS staff will be there so come and say hi and check out the action. All in all we have an exciting wrestling weekend planned. SEE YOU THERE!!
Keep striving,
Mike Cigala and staff
