Dear BTS Coaches,
Thomas Edison once said that success is 1% inspiration, and 99% perspiration. We have struggled, worked, and sweated these last 3 months to now have our final test placed before us. The 2008 NYC Beat the Streets Middle school championships are less than 3 days ahead. Our courses are set and our goals are before us. Please prepare your team and yourself for the challenge and the opportunities that lie ahead for this Saturday's May 17 culminating championship event. Last year I was a coach just like you are now, preparing my upstart IS 291 wrestling team. We spent our last week practicing twice a day every day, promising that we would wrestle hard for each other and our school. We drilled and wrestled harder every day as we approached our destination. My athletes gathered on the day of the event at Hunter College and vowed to each other a familiar oath; to never quit and to leave it all on the mat, and save nothing. We were a family that now prepared for the ultimate challenge together. Our hard work paid off that day and we sent 11 wrestlers to the finals winning 8 golds, 3 silver, and 4 bronze. We were co-city champions with powerful Baruch Middle school and the rest is history. The unheard school of Brooklyn who could!!
I share this success story to make this point, that you are never sure of what you can do until you just totally commit to doing your best! It is my earnest wish that you and your team find its own championship dreams this Saturday.
